A female student from Souhegan High School was safely removed from the building without incident after officials were told she had a loaded gun with her. According to WMUR, “the girl confided in another student that she was having some problems and that she brought a handgun to school.”
Principal Jon Ingram said the classmate spoke to an adult at the school who spoke to the student who was “in a difficult situation”. The school’s resource officer was also involved and was able to secure the surrendered weapon.
The student was turned over to police who was escorted out of the building. The school was not put in lockdown because the situation was resolved so quickly, according to Ingram. However a letter was sent home to parents.
“I think what most impressed me about our school community was the fact that No. 1, a student felt comfortable and had the courage to come forward, and No. 2, that there were enough adults to get to that student quickly and promptly,” he said.
Ingram also stated that possible disciplinary action is being considered.
